Functional principles
It is extracted from the nut of the Butyrospermum Parkii fruit, which contains 50-55% fat and approximately 10% protein. What makes Shea Butter unique is its high content of unsaponifiables. This 'unsaponifiable fraction' is particularly noble because it contains phytosterols, which are emollient, protective and stimulate fibroblasts to produce elastin and collagen, polyphenols with remarkable anti-free radical properties against sunlight and UV rays in general, and Vitamin A, E and F. The combination of these principles gives Shea Butter its nourishing, emollient, elasticizing and protective properties.
A natural skin component that supports and nourishes collagen and elastin fibres. Its ability to bind and retain water delivers immediate hydration and helps the skin achieve a softer, smoother appearance.
This phospholipid is widely found in nature as it is typical of all cell membranes, both plant and animal. It acts as an all-natural, non-allergenic, perfectly tolerated, non-greasy emulsifier that adapts to all skin types. In addition, it has anti-free radical and emollient properties that protect the skin and give it a soft and silky appearance.
Vitamin A has anti-oxidant and anti-free radical properties and is therefore protective against skin damage. It also has a nourishing, anti-irritant, anti-reddening effect.
Vitamin E also has an anti-oxidant, anti-free radical and skin-protective effect. It facilitates the absorption of Vitamin A and has elasticizing properties.
A polyunsaturated fatty acid, it restores the skin’s hydrolipidic film. Emollient and restorative, it prevents local irritations and is ideal for stressed skin.
SOD or Super Oxide Dismutase, is naturally produced by the body and it is its most powerful defence against Free Radicals. Industrial progress has unfortunately led to an enormous amount of Free Radicals from increased pollution and UV radiation. As a consequence, the SOD produced by the body is no longer enough to neutralise them and has to be supplemented. The primary effect of SOD is to protect against damage induced by Free Radicals. By protecting Elastin and Collagen, it allows these two fibres to remain intact, preserving elasticity, strength and suppleness. It works in synergy with hyaluronic Acid preserving its remarkable moisturising properties. SOD also has restorative properties.
Rich in plant-derived sugars, alpha-hydroxy acids and proteins, it can be described as a 'plant moisturising factor'. These active ingredients together with urea and sodium pca make up our skin's natural moisturising factor or NMF. Thanks to a high concentration of active ingredients, a highly effective and long-lasting moisturising effect is achieved.
Also known as vitamin B2, it is considered very useful at maintaining normal skin function and has a protective and decongestant effect.
